Good Readers Are Better Students.

Help us stock the libraries at Nicolas Christian School and our partner villages with books that are relevant, engaging, and chosen around what teachers say their students actually need.

How It Started

From Village Shelves to a School Library

In 2020 and 2021, Nicolás Fund For Education (NFE) opened mini-libraries in villages across the Ixil highlands, where no public libraries existed — many children's first real access to books.

Since then, NFE has built the Nicolás Christian School campus, complete with its own school library serving every student. Today, the Library Fund supports both: the NCS library and the original village libraries that started it all.

Library Update

In early 2026, a team of librarians visited NCS and trained the staff to catalog the books in the school library. Over the years, many books were donated to the school, but many were damaged, outdated, or not relevant to students' and teachers' needs.

The librarian team met with every NCS teacher to learn which books would be most useful to them and their students; the Library Committee will oversee all books purchased for the NCS and village libraries. We know that good readers are better students. Our goal is to have libraries full of books that are relevant to what they are learning, interesting, and fun to read!
